2021.10.23 15:45 Kiid-i 1440p or 1080p (3060ti)

Hello, I recently purchase the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB GAMING OC V2 LHR.
I want to run Ray tracing and max settings on every game. But also want to run 144hz...
I'd be playing alot of story games (so sexiness is key) and R6/CSGO (which are easier to run anyways)
Do you think I should get a 1080p or 1440p monitor?

2021.10.23 15:45 TooOldToCareIsTaken Dutch (ring) Bike Lock Recommendations

I'm trying to find a suitable Dutch (ring) lock to mount permanently on the rear down post (seat stay I believe it's called).
I've just bought and returned a Kryponite one which wasn't big/wide enough for my mudguard/tyres.
Has anybody with a Trek Allant+ 7 or one with wide'ish (not fat boy) tyres had any luck sourcing a suitable Dutch lock?

2021.10.23 15:45 NeuroticSyndrome Ranking victims and defendants

So recently I made a post analyzing how good each of the games were based on how intimidating their villains were. Turns out that was really fun, so I want to make another post, and this time focus on some of the more unsung characters!
In some cases, the victims were killed pretty randomly, at the wrong place at the wrong time for no good reason, had little backstory, and were hardly discussed later, only secondary to the cool murder technique and the breakdown of the killer. These are disappointing characters that get less screen time and are less appreciated. Such unremarkable, replaceable victims would get a low rating by me. But many victims do have a central importance in the plot, they have a function in the events leading to their death. They could be very positive and loved characters, or perhaps very manipulative evil bastards who had it coming. This type of victims is the one I want to commend here.
So on to the rankings! I'll give every victim a ranking between 1 and 5 (my personal opinion), and later compare the games' average score, hopefully drawing conclusions. Once again I'll skip Chronicles and the Layton crossover, and I'll try to keep it spoiler free:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
1: 1/5, 2: 5/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 2/5, and 5: 3/5. Average score: 2.8/5.
Some of the victims in this game were pretty passive and not too interesting, but others had agency and were very central to the plot. These ratings should make it clear to you what to expect.
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
1: 1/5, 2: 3/5, 3: 2/5, 4: 4/5. Average score: 2.5/5.
This time some victims were very active and contributed to the events around them. Still, the score isn't very high, it's the lowest in the list.
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
1: 2/5, 2: 1/5, 3: 2/5, 4: 3/5, 5: 5/5 . Average score: 2.6/5.
Partly due to this game's structure, most of the victims in this game were unfortunately completely offscreen and irrelevant, and only a couple of them were compelling and tragic.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
1: 4/5 (At least if you count later events), 2: 2/5, 3: 1/5, 4: 4/5. Average score: 2.7/5.
I might have skewed the ranking for the first victim slightly (In the previous post I prioritized describing how the average player would feel during the gameplay of that case, and not later on), but this game is on par with the first game's victims, only two of them being interesting at all.
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
1: 1/5, 2: 2/5, 3: 2/5, 4: 5/5, 5: 5/5. Average score: 3/5.
Lots of victims, great backstories and overarching plot, overall solid ranking. (In cases with two victims I OBVIOUSLY counted the one that mattered... The other one would get a 1/5, lol)
Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Path
1: 2/5, 2: 4/5, 3: 4/5, 4: 3/5, 5: 5/5. Average score: 3.6/5.
I just love how interconnected every case in this game is, and naturally all the victims also play into the greater plot. All of the victims in the backstory cases weren't counted, but they were all great. This is the highest rating in this list, just like in my last post.
Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies
1: 3/5, 2: 2/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 2/5, 5 (The earlier victim): 5/5, DLC: 2/5. Average score: 2.8/5.
I wasn't too invested in some of the victims even though they meant a lot to the main characters, but I recognize that they warrant an above average score.
Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice
1: 1/5, 2: 1/5, 3: 4/5 (Both victims are around 4), 4: 1/5, 5: 3/5 and 5/5, DLC: 3/5. Average score: 2.6/5.
For some reason this game had some victims with little to no screen time. Despite that, the other victims were quite interesting. The divination seances are fun, too.

It seems that no score for a game was lower than 2.5/5. Coming into this, I thought too many victims were boring nobodies that were just chosen for the sake of the plot, but apparently that's not the case.
And you know what? While I'm at it, why not also rank the defendants of each case? Many of them are iconic funny or tragic characters, some become lovable recurring characters, some of them go through entire arcs... But other defendants are forgotten as quickly as they are introduced, and you're almost surprised to see them again when the judge declares them innocent. In DD-5, for example, when the defendant's face is seen in a... circumstance... that really caught me off guard, as I almost forgot their role in the story.
For this I'll also skip Edgeworth's Investigation games and stick to the mainline ones, even though Investigations got the highest rankings for victims, just to avoid too many ambiguities and complications. Let's check out how the defendants fare:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
1: 2/5, 2: 5/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 5/5, and 5: 5/5. Average score: 4/5.
The recurring characters get a lower score than they would in later games, because they're not viewed as that interesting in this game and case just yet. If I didn't do this adjustment, this game would get a perfect score.... Even under this condition, this game easily has the best defendants of any game in the series.
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
1: 2/5, 2: 5/5, 3: 2/5, 4: 5/5. Average score: 3.5/5.
It's almost unfair to rank defendants like Maya, but it's not my fault she keeps getting in trouble... Still, these cases are part of what makes the games. The two interesting defendants in it are among the best, placing this game pretty high.
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
1: 2/5, 2: 4/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 5/5, 5: 5/5 . Average score: 3.8/5.
Some extremely interesting and memorable defendants, only one of them is even recurring. (Other than Nick. Sorry lol, you'll get your badge in time...)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
1: 5/5, 2: 3/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 4/5. Average score: 3.7/5.
Here Nick, still no badge but a better score, happy now? The defendants seem very compelling in this game.
Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies
1: 3/5, 2: 4/5, 3: 3/5, 4: 1/5, 5 (The earlier murder): 5/5, DLC: 2/5. Average score: 3/5.
The defendants were some pretty important characters, but again, I couldn't relate to Juniper all that much... No disrespect. This game gets the lowest score in this list, but this score is not bad at all.
Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice
1: 1/5, 2: 5/5, 3: 5/5, 4: 1/5, 5: 5/5, DLC: 2/5. Average score: 3.2/5.
I obviously can't give the recurring characters a sub-5 score, and not because "omg I'm such a huge fan", but other than them only one defendant is truly fantastic.

Well, the defendants turned out even more interesting overall than the victims! This is a welcome surprise for me. Though to be fair, recurring defendants very much skew these results, regardless of how fun it is to defend them.
The scores for each game relative to each other are pretty much what I expected. Could it be that my initial impression was wrong, I disproportionately remembered the lame victims and defendants, and it's actually the victims and defendants that bolster the crucial parts in the emotional journey through each case? I guess the memorable villains are much more exciting to face at the end of each case, while the victims and defendants are the unfortunate collateral damage in their path of destruction, so we give their grief less attention? I realize now there are more silly or pushover villains than there are completely disregarded and neglected victims and defendants.
Let me know what conclusions you draw from my analysis. Also discuss in the comments if there's anything you disagree with me about in the scoring. Just make sure to mark all spoilers ;)

2021.10.23 15:45 Himero5 Why a lot of people here want to complicate shinies in the game?

When it comes to a discussion about shinies, somehow a scary amount of people say that it should be RNG based, with the same chance as in the games. WHY?
Why leave something cool to be decided by RNG? If anything, a unhealthy amount of players would just target anyone who happens to get a shiny because of salt
And while at it, why so many people want to complicate the idea of mastery? Why turn something so simple like playing a lot with a character (something that shows dedication) into required victories? It doesn't show how good you are with a character, specially something like Blissey who depends entirely on her team?
